I was born in Jamestown, N.Y. When I was about three we moved to Bemus Point, N.Y on Chatauqua lake. That winter we went to Auburndale, Fla. When we returned to N.Y. I started Kindergarden at Bemus Point Elem. for the first half of the school year. The second half we lived in Palmetto, Fla. As you can see we moved around a lot, I guess that is why it was so difficult for me to settle in one place. We finally got a home in Tampa where I went to Twin Lakes Elem. from the beginning of third grade through the seventh. Then on to Junior high at Oak Grove J.H. which is where I met my first real girlfriend. High school was a really different experience, from the 10th through 12th grade I went to Brewster Vocational High School in Tampa.
After graduation in 1966 I went to work for the local Lincoln Mercury dealer in downtown Tampa. I worked there for 6 months after which I enlisted in the Navy sometime in Nov. 1966. On December 19, 1966 I was in Boot Camp at San Diego. We were there for what seemed an eternity, but in reality it was it was only three months. March 19th we graduated Boot Camp and all went on to our next duty stations, mine being Jet engine school at NATTC Memphis. After 16 weeks of school we were told what our next duty station would be, When they got to me I was told that I would be stationed at NAS Agana Guam with Heavyphotoron 61. I asked "where the H--- is Guam"? The instructor pulled down a world map and pointed to a very small dot in the western Pacific ocean.I had little time to be doing much after I got there, my first three months were spent in the galley as a dishwasher. When I returned to the squadron for duty around the end of October, I was assigned to the Line crew as a plane director, In my 28 months with the squadron, I performed many duties, a lot of them menial but necessary. But I also got to go places I otherwise would never have seen, such as the Philippines, South korea and of course VietNam.My first detached duty was to the Philippines and was cut short to return to Guam and prep setup for a detachment to DaNang AFB, South VietNam. We arrived there Jan 12, 1968. Jan 29th was the start of the TET offensive for us. I was in DaNang two more times. The second time was from Nov 1968 through Feb 1969, after which we returned to Guam to prepare a New Detachment to Osan AFB in South Korea from April 12th which was just three days before the north shot down an unarmed C121 Radar plane from Japan. We returned to Guam in June. Just after Armstrong set foot on the moon, I went back to DaNang for the last time, and was there through my 21st birthday. On Dec.19, 1969 I returned to the USA for Duty at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. That's about 90 miles north of Seattle.
I was stationed at Whidbey Island for a year and is where I met my first wife. We were both pretty heavy drinkers, that marriage didn't last long. I was transferred to NAS Lemoore Cal. in 1971 and lived in Armona Cal. until discharged in 1972. About the time of my discharge I met my second wife, We moved around a lot as I went from job to job. In 1974 and 1975 I took night classes in computer programming in Fresno. Feb 1975 my daughter was born. 1976 saw yet another move, this time to Jamestown N.Y. where as it turned out there were no jobs to be found right away. I eventually wound working for an International Harvester dealer with the agreement of raises to come at set intervals which didn't happened so I left that job. The next day I went up the street to a trucking company and started work the next day. While the pay was pretty good, the hours were not. I was usually gone for 6 days at a time.In 1978 our son was born and about a month later we moved to Florida, where the jobs were also scarce at first. We separated in 1981 at her request (demand). She took the kids and went back to Cal. where her family was. After that I worked at a lot of jobs, some were good others were just something to do. In 1989 I moved back up to N.Y. as my mother was ill. She passed in 1990. Little did I know that was just the beginning. In the three years, 1990 through 1992, I would bury my mother, father and sister in that order. My sister was only 62 at the time. From August 1989 to October 22, 1990 I drove truck out of western N.Y.. I injured my back Oct. 22, 1990 and have not worked at a job since.
That is a small account of my life so far. Hopefully there be a lot more years to do the things that never seem to get done.
